Randy Reimer is a founding partner of the CPA firm Reimer, McGuinness & Associates, P.C. Randy is a native Texan, and received his accounting degree from Sam Houston State University and has been licensed as a certified public accountant since 1985. Mr. Reimer has worked in public accounting since 1982, for large local firms and for one of the “Big 8” firms – KPMG.

Randy has also completed the coursework at Rice University, Glasscock School of Continuing Studies, and received a certificate for the Certified Financial Planner®, Certification Education Program. Mr. Reimer also has completed all the requirements of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., to use the CFP® designation.

As a partner, Mr. Reimer works primarily with individuals, companies and their owners, as well as non-profit organizations. Services provided to individuals include tax and financial and estate planning. He also works with companies by overseeing and coordinating work in the tax, accounting and audit area. Some of the services include monthly accounting, tax planning and consulting, business/management consulting, mergers and acquisitions, succession planning, estate planning, litigation support, and the preparation of audited and reviewed financial statements.

The corporate clients that Mr. Reimer serves come from a wide variety of industries including, professional service providers, medical, manufacturing, distributors, food service, telecommunications, home builders, construction contractors, auto dealerships, investment companies, retirement plans, and others.

Randy loves to work with nonprofit organizations and has worked in the public sector his entire career. Working with nonprofits is something that is very connected to Randy's desire to help people and help his clients. Randy is currently on the board of Combat Marine Outdoors an organization that seeks to rehabilitate wounded warriors with outdoor activities like hunting and fishing.

Randy is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Houston Chapter of CPAs as well as the CFP Board of Standards, Inc.

Tom McGuinness, CPA, CVA

Tom is one of the founding partners of Reimer, McGuinness & Associates, P.C. Tom has lived all over the United States, from Hawaii to North Dakota, but grew up down in the valley, in Corpus Christi. Tom earned his accounting degree at the University of Houston and has been a licensed CPA since 1983, and has been working in public accounting for 30 years. Tom worked for one of the “Big 8” firms, Coopers & Lybrand for 3 years. In addition, he became a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) in 1999.

As a partner Tom works with business owners and individuals as well as some non-profit organizations. That work includes the supervision and coordination of tax preparation and tax planning services, handling IRS representation issues, and providing assistance with accounting and related issues. While Tom works with many different industry groups and types of businesses, throughout much of his career he has worked in the area of physician side healthcare, working with doctors and doctor groups in many ways. From helping with their tax and accounting issues to providing assistance in the management of their offices, reviewing cost reimbursements, providing valuations of a medical practice, and many other consultative areas.

Tom is a frequent speaker at various health care seminars and every year lectures the graduating class of physicians at the University of Texas Health Science Center. He has been a very active member of the National CPA Healthcare Advisors Association, serving as President at one time.

In addition, Tom works with many professional service firms including law firms, contractors, dry cleaners, just to name a few. In addition, Tom has been involved in several litigation support engagements providing expert witness testimony in a variety of cases.

Tom is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.

Merle Shefstad, CPA

Merle earned his BS in accounting from Southern Methodist University and his MBA from the University of North Texas. He earned his CPA designation in 1981. During his 30 plus year accounting career Merle has worked for then “Big 8” CPA firm of Arthur Young. Another interesting employer was working as accounting supervisor for the Ross Perot Family and doing all their personal tax work

In addition, Merle has served in various controllership and CFO positions for companies involved with real estate holdings, petroleum equipment and services and related industries. For the last 12 years he worked as a tax senior manager for local public accounting firms. Merle has been working with Tom and Randy since 1999.

Merle takes a lead role in the training of RMA tax staff and is our resident “guru” regarding non-profit organizations. Every year Merle speaks to nonprofit organizations about tax issues. He is also very involved in assisting new nonprofit organizations in obtaining their 501 3 c status. Merle manages tax services for individuals, corporations, trusts and estates. Merle is also our “specialist” in state tax reporting so he is an excellent resource for the Texas gross margin tax, and any other state tax issues.
